As another summer passes – So it goes

To my fellow “outdoor crew” permit holders and agents of Pike Place Market.
So it goes.

New market babies snuggled.  Tucked warmly next to mom.  Shoulders ache but never burdened.  Sweet baby feet bare.  Fine hair glowing in the sun.  Passed from arms to loving arms.  She loves daddy best.

So it goes.

Cart coming through! Cow bell. Cow bell.  Cart coming through!  Life on the outside slabs.  Is it going to rain?  White caps on the bay of grey.  More concerned about the wind.  Snap an umbrella in half.  It’s the 2 o’clock gust.

So it goes.

Is it going to rain?  No. I think we’ll be fine.  Thunder does more that clap.  Sky opens.  Cover tables.  Runs for cover.  Umbrella works then fails.  Wait. Then the sun is out.  Continue on and sell.  We’ll take a hundred please.  Well, well.

So it goes.

Puppies!  In a tent.  Puppies on parade.  Parrot is still here.  Playing dead.  Cats too.  In sweaters.  Hula hoops.  Two.  Three.  Four.  Harmonica.  Guitar on a chin.  Rubik’s cube solved  Where did the Beatles boys go?  Gun shot fired somewhere else, not here.  But one of our own now gone.

So it goes.

Bob Dylan on a loop.  Banjo and washboard.  Juggler’s “look at me” whoop.  You can’t set up here.  Go way, way over there.  Trans Am man slowly blows us away.  He keeps the heart beat.  Elvis?  Is that you?  Look in the Mirror – – Man.

So it goes.

Lean on me while I lean on you.  Stories to share.  Breakups and pairings.  New kids on the block.  Still fresh and excited.  New kids in the park.  Careful.  They’re easily ignited.   911 or market security?  It’s all in where the foot falls.

So it goes.

49 days.  Mostly sun-ish.  No rain.  Now a lovely morning chill.  Crowds thinning.  Sun waning.  Snapped umbrella laid to rest in the trash.  Five years.  It served me well.  Is that you in the park?  A second life.  Shade him well.

So it goes.

Another month out?  I can only hope.  So it goes.

And so it goes.
